AI Readiness Assessment

A structured diagnostic of where your organisation actually stands with AI, scored across five dimensions, before any AI investment is made. Run on AiReady.mu, the readiness platform Consultaix built for Mauritian organisations.

The problem an assessment solves

Most organisations approach AI in one of two ways. They buy a tool because a vendor made a persuasive case, or they wait because nobody can say with confidence whether the organisation is ready. Both routes are expensive. The first produces pilots that stall at three users. The second produces a widening gap with competitors who started earlier.

An AI readiness assessment replaces both with evidence. It measures the organisation as it is, not as the strategy document describes it, and gives leadership a defensible answer to the question every board eventually asks: are we ready, and if not, what specifically has to change first?

What an AI readiness assessment is

An AI readiness assessment is a structured measurement of whether an organisation can adopt AI and sustain value from it. It is not a technology audit and not a maturity ranking. It answers five questions: is there a decision on AI and who owns it, who is accountable for governance and risk, can the data feed a model, who can do the work, and is anything in production that holds. Each answer is scored, and the profile across the five is what the roadmap is built on. The Consultaix AI Adoption Ladder is the framework behind the scoring.

Who this is for

  • SMEs in Mauritius that are being sold AI and want an independent view before committing budget
  • Corporate leadership teams that need a baseline before an AI programme is approved
  • Public-sector and parastatal bodies preparing to respond to the National AI Strategy and its FAIR guidelines
  • Boards that want AI risk and opportunity assessed with the same rigour as any other capital decision

What Consultaix does

Consultaix runs the assessment across the five dimensions that determine whether AI adoption holds: strategy, governance, data, capability and execution. Each dimension is scored against the four rungs of the AI Adoption Ladder: Aware, Exploring, Adopting and Scaling. Organisations rarely sit on the same rung for every dimension, so the output is a profile, not a single number.

The instrument comes from doctoral research into AI readiness in Mauritian SMEs and is built for the realities of a small economy: limited specialist supply, concentrated capability, and regulation that is still taking shape. It is the same diagnostic that powers AiReady.mu.

How the work runs

  1. ScopingA short conversation to agree who takes part, what is in scope, and what decision the assessment needs to inform.
  2. Evidence gatheringStructured interviews with leadership and function heads, a review of the data and systems in use, and the readiness questionnaire completed by the people who actually do the work.
  3. Scoring and placementEach dimension is scored and placed on the Ladder. Where scores conflict with what leadership believed, we say so and show the evidence.
  4. RoadmapA prioritised set of moves, starting with the lowest rung, sized to what the organisation can absorb over the next two to four quarters.

What you have at the end

A scored readiness report across all five dimensions. Your organisation's placement on the AI Adoption Ladder, dimension by dimension. A prioritised roadmap with the first three moves specified. A briefing to leadership, in person, with the evidence behind every score.

The assessment is designed to stand alone. Many organisations use it to brief a board, to shape a budget, or to evaluate a vendor proposal, without engaging Consultaix further. Where they do continue, the roadmap is what the implementation programme is scoped against.
